HISTORY OF MEDICAL SCOOL

A Brief History of the Faculty of Medicine, UPN Veteran Jakarta

The establishment of the Faculty of Medicine of UPN “Veteran” Jakarta cannot be separated from the situation and conditions, among others:

1. The health development policy as stated in TAP MPR number II / MPR / 1993 concerning the Outlines of State Policy which outlines that health development is directed at increasing the public health status and improving the quality and convenience of health services which must be increasingly affordable to all levels of society.

2. The elaboration of the above government policies, apart from requiring funds, facilities and infrastructure also requires health human resources, including doctors. The Faculty of Medicine as an institution that produces doctors is required to meet the needs of as many as 70,000 doctors in order to achieve service standards with a ratio of 1 (one) doctor to 3,000 (three thousand) residents.

3. The Department of Defense and Security and ABRI in carrying out their main duties also require doctors to fill positions in both managerial and functional fields, in hospitals and / or field health units.

4. The high need for doctors provides an opportunity to open a new Faculty of Medicine. The existing opportunities were taken advantage of by the “Veteran” National Development University under the Sudirman Great Chief of Justice Foundation, which was subsequently merged into a Foundation under the Ministry of Defense and Security of the Republic of Indonesia to form the Faculty of Medicine UPN “Veteran” Jakarta. It turned out that the attempt to establish the Faculty of Medicine was successful. Officially, the Faculty of Medicine UPN “Veteran” Jakarta was established in 1993 based on the Decree of the Minister of Defense and Security of the Republic of Indonesia Number: KEP / 01 / II / 1993 concerning the Structuring of the “Veteran” National Development University.

5. Based on the Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 120 of 2014 dated 6 October 2014 concerning the Establishment of UPN “Veteran” Jakarta, under the Ministry of Technology Research and Higher Education as the institution that houses UPNV Jakarta, it provides an encouragement for flexibility in determining strategic policies in an effort to achieve medical education advanced and modern.

MESSAGE FROM DEAN FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Assalamualaikum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuh
Let us praise and thank God Almighty for all the blessings and health given to us all.

As a State Defense Campus, the Faculty of Medicine of UPN Veteran Jakarta, which was founded in 1993 until now, continues to strive to produce the best, highly competitive graduates who are able to actively contribute to the development and improvement of the health of the Indonesian nation as a form of State Defense. We have compiled these efforts in the strategic plan and strategic goals of FK UPN Veteran Jakarta 2018-2020.

The Faculty of Medicine of UPN Veteran Jakarta has 3 Study Programs, namely the Undergraduate Medical Study Program (PSKPS), the Medical Doctor Program (PSKPD), and a new study program, the Undergraduate Pharmacy Study Program (PSFPS). We are targeting to achieve superior accreditation for all FK UPN Veteran Jakarta study programs. This is one of the priorities that must be achieved because of the high interest of prospective students towards FK UPN Veteran Jakarta, and UPN Veteran Jakarta is included in the Top 10 PTNs with the average SBMPTN value received in the field of Science (2019).

The achievements of students both in academic and non-academic fields are very encouraging. Several times FK UPN Veteran Jakarta students have won scientific competitions both at the national and international levels. Student scientific works have been successfully published in accredited journals, while student activities that are social and humanitarian are also running very well.

As of January 2020 FK UPN Veteran Jakarta has produced 2631 Doctor graduates, and the first taker passing rate in the Student Competency Test for the Professional Doctor Program (UKMPPD) held nationally is quite high. The absorption power of FK UPN Veteran Jakarta graduates is high and graduates work according to their fields. Some of the graduates work in government agencies, the TNI, POLRI, and private agencies. The feedback provided by graduate users on graduate performance is good.

We realize that to produce the best and highly competitive graduates requires serious effort and hard work. For that we always try to complete the facilities and infrastructure to support education and research. We already have a stem cell laboratory, which is one of the excellent faculties of FK UPN Veteran Jakarta. The provision of anatomage and plastination tools to support the learning process in the field of anatomy, the learning process through e-learning, the availability of e-libraries, and e-journals managed by the Faculty of Medicine are part of the supporting infrastructure.

The Faculty of Medicine of UPN Veteran Jakarta has also collaborated with various hospitals including Pasar Minggu Hospital, Bhayangkara Tk Hospital. I. R. Said Soekanto, Friendship Center General Hospital, Dr. Mental Hospital Soeharto Heerdjan, Ambarawa Regional Hospital, and Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo as a vehicle for education for clinical clerkship students. We also collaborate with FKUI and FK UNDIP in order to improve the quality of education. We have explored international cooperation with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for Medicine and Pharmacy Study Program.

We are sure that all efforts and struggles put in earnest and prayers that are always said will get satisfying results. Let’s work for the advancement of our beloved nation and state of Indonesia.

Greetings, Defend the State,
Wassalamu’alaikum warohmatullaahi wabarakaatuh
